Plestia Alaqad reported from the Gaza Strip following the Hamas attack of 7 October 2023. Her 2025 book "The Eyes of Gaza: A Diary of Resilience", in which she documents the first weeks of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, became a New York Times bestseller. She was born in Gaza, and in November 2023, she and her family fled to Egypt and then to Australia.
