on Europeans Oppose Death Sentence for Saddam, by Deutsche Welle
European politicians should, first and foremost, use their influence to decide for a place where a trial could take place with Saddam Hussein as defendant. This place should be the international court at Den Haag, Netherland. Only afterwards - if at all - they should speak out against a death sentence. The reasons are twofold. Constitutionally, they may not interfere as politicians with jurisprudence. Second reason: the death sentence option may be appropriate. Iraqi scholars already mention the similarities with the Nurenberg trial, which was fair and transparent and pronounced death sentences too.
