On 10 December Donald Trump tweeted that the USA recognised Morocco’s sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara, would open a consulate in Dakhla, and had brokered a qualified normalisation of ties between Morocco and Israel. Confirmed by Morocco’s royal cabinet and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this controversial quid pro quo agreement will have far-reaching regional, international, and domestic implications.
