Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe jailed in Iran temporarily freed into custody of family

British diplomats and rights groups are cautiously welcoming Tehran's temporary release of a jailed British-Iranian woman into the custody of her family in Iran.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 42, who has been in prison on espionage charges since 2016, was released following concerns that she could be exposed to the coronavirus, which has spread widely in Iran's jails.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said he is "relieved" by the news, while Amnesty International urged Iran to "end Nazanin's ordeal and finally let her return to her family in the UK as soon as she's able to travel."

"It is essential she has access to any necessary medical care," Raab tweeted. He said he spoke to his Iranian counterpart by phone on Monday to "press for the immediate & permanent release of all UK dual nationals arbitrarily detained there."    (dpa)
