University of Munster: Appealing to the world for peace
"We must all recognise that terrorism is the worst excrescence of political crises – all Muslims are called to live peaceful lives," emphasised the Grand Imam of Cairo′s Al-Ahzar University, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb. "Religious dialogue is a holy duty," said the Suffragan Bishop of Hamburg Dr. Hans-Jochen Jaschke.
In the process, the aim should not be to dispense with our differences, but rather to regard diversity as enriching. "There can be no peace without all-encompassing justice," added the Swiss pastor and former president of the Protestant Church community in Europe, Thomas Wipf. The representatives were also in agreement that faith may not be instrumentalised and abused in the name of violence and terrorism.
