U.S. adds Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh to list of global terrorists

The United States on Wednesday designated Ismail Haniyeh, the senior political leader of the Gaza-based Islamist militant movement Hamas, as an international terrorist. "Haniyeh has close links with Hamas' military wing and has been a proponent of armed struggle, including against civilians," the State Department said in a news release.
